Are you so busy that you “don’t have time” for the things you long to do? Does your day begin with alarm, snooze, alarm, shower, dress, jump-into-action-no-time-for-you? Maybe it seems that life happens to you, and all you can do is react to the circumstances.

Now, imagine a life in which you get up and enjoy your “daily quiet time” before you shower and get ready for the rest of the day.

Did you breathe a little sigh of relief? You can have that feeling every day if you become intentional about living your life.

When you start your day with quiet time for yourself, you begin your day with more energy, confidence, and peace of mind. It is easier to focus on the life you want and take the actions necessary to make it happen.

What is an intentional life?

It is a life that you live on purpose. You decide what kind of life you want and then intentionally create it. The first step is deciding what you want. Start with a journal or a sheet of paper, and write down everything that comes to mind when you think of your ideal life.

Here are a few suggestions to get your ideas flowing that you may want to include on your Intentional Life list:

  • Quiet time for yourself each morning to create your intentional life
  • Move More – Exercise
  • Eat Less – Diet
  • Drink Water – Hydration
  • Meditate – Spiritual Growth
  • I’m Thankful For…
  • Tidy Up My Home
  • I Will Learn to – List things you want to do or learn about
  • Relationships – How will you cultivate new and existing relationships? Whom do you want to connect with on a deeper level?
  • Practice Random Acts of Kindness

You might also add things like

  • Be more compassionate toward myself and others
  • Send your inner critic on a sabbatical
  • Smile more
  • Don’t worry about what others think
  • Read more books
  • Find the humor in situations and laugh more often

When you are finished, read your list and fine-tune it to include everything you want in your ideal life. This is your life, so make sure the things on your list reflect what you desire.

The second step is committing to taking consistent action on one or more items on your list daily. Start with something that seems easy so you can succeed.

The third step is to create an action plan for the item on your list that you will do first. It is like cooking in a way. You start with a recipe, and you gather the ingredients (in this case, the item on your list you want to accomplish).

Then, you follow the steps listed in the recipe to get your final product. The difference here is that you are creating the steps you will follow for your recipe to ensure the success of this item on your list.

The fourth step is to take consistent action—just do it. When you master one item on your list, take on another. Create your recipe for success for each item on your list.

Celebrate your success with each item on your list as you implement it in your life. Soon, you will notice that you are living an intentional life—a life with purpose and freedom to live as you desire.
