“You're picky about the car you drive. You're picky about what you wear. You're picky about what you put in your mouth. We want you to be pickier about what you think”.     — Abraham

Who is in charge of your life, you or your mind? You are the chooser but the mind is oh, so clever at grabbing for control. Just think about the last time you were trying to get somewhere in heavy traffic. What did your mind tell you? Argh! I am going to be late. Too many people live here. Why is that driver going so slow? How did that driver in front of me  get a license, anyway? I hope that guy behind me doesn't hit me. You get the picture. Your mind runs wild when it cannot get it's way. Let's take it a step further, how did you feel when you finally arrived at your destination after driving in heavy traffic? Drained, frustrated, or angry perhaps. Often we let our mind run without realizing that we can choose to be picky about what we think and  re-focus our thoughts in a new direction.

What we put our time, focus, and attention on, increases.  If you put attention on positive, uplifting people, places, and things we will create more positive and uplifting experiences. The opposite is also true, it we put our time, energy and focus on negative, draining people, places, and things we will create more negative and draining experiences. So “What am I supposed to do?”, you might ask, “After all I have not choice I have to drive in heavy traffic sometimes.” You always get to choose what you think. It takes dicipline and awareness to move your mind from draining thoughts to uplifting thoughts. And it can be done.  So, why would I want to do that?

Think about the driving experience again. If you were choosing uplifting thoughts when you noticed that you were going to the negative  you can say to yourself  “how do I want to feel right now?” That shifts you to a different place.

After all you are picky about the car you drive, the clothes you wear, the food you eat, the place you live, the friends you keep, and the job you have.  And those things are the results of  your past thinking. What you are thinking now is creating your future. It may be worth it to be a little more picky about what you think.
