Have you ever been focusing on something so much that you lost track of what was going on around you? Or maybe you were curious about what was going on “over there” and directed your attention to what was happening “over there”.

You guessed it, that happened to me and I have to share the story and the Soul message I received on this one with you.

I walk every day along the waterway near my home.

Usually, the walk begins with me finding that still place within, and then I get fully present and begin to hear the birds chirping, feel the cool air kiss the skin on my face, and notice peace within. I stay present and take in the beauty of nature and life around me.

This day was different. Construction workers were doing some concrete work on the waterway. A loud noise attracted my attention. I couldn't help but look to see what they were doing.

One guy with a hard hat was rumbling along in  a small tractor with a load of wet concrete in the front loader on the trail.

I saw orange cones marking a space for him and another worker directing him.

Of course, I was looking at the tractor and the load of concrete. I was curious about what was happening “over there.” I was focused on everything outside of myself.

And then it happened. I stepped in dog poop. I did not see it and walked right into it. Still unaware of what I had done, I kept rubber-necking to see what they were doing.

After I passed the workers, I got a message to check my shoes. Yep, it was squished into the waffle soles of my athletic shoes.

“Oh no,” I said out loud, “not dog poop”.

I started to chuckle as I thought about what had happened.  When I became present to myself again, there was a Soul message for me. When I am not present to myself and focus on everything outside of myself, I end up stepping in “it”.

It was a great learning moment for me to remember to be present to myself when doing everything.  Nobody likes stepping in “it”.
